Grace Baptist Church was founded sometime in the late 1970s, the exact date is unknown, in a small building on French Mill Road. Brother Tommy Lindsey, one of our missionaries and current Pastor of Lakeland Baptist Church in White Pine was the first Pastor.
Eventually, Brother Tommy accepted another calling so the church called Brother Vaughn Woody to be Pastor. Brother Woody agreed if the church would move to a better location, so the current location was purchased on the east side of Dandridge.
After Brother Woody left, the church called Brother Jim Smith to be Pastor. During Brother Jim’s 26 years of serving as Pastor, God blessed in many ways. Attendance steadily grew and so did the building, going through several additions as well as the building of a Fellowship Hall. In March 2009, God called Brother Jim home to heaven.
Later in 2009, the church called Brother Perry Davis to be Pastor. God continued to bless and the church continued to grow. On June 11, 2012, the day after Vacation Bible School in which several children accepted Christ as their Saviour, demolition began on the old building. After several months of blood, sweat and tears we opened our new building on December 16, 2012 with the children’s Christmas Play. The children closed the old building and opened the new building!
God has blessed Grace Baptist Church beyond measure and we thank Him for it.
